Q: I am overwhelmed with the choices of extra accessories. I am strongly considering a KitchenAid 5 qt Artisan stand mixer. However, wondering how long the flat beater "should" last, and if I should go ahead and purchase that in burnished finish.
A: The burnished aluminum beater is not dishwasher safe, so the customer must keep that it mind. Kitchenaid recommends that the coated accessories to be stored in the bowl while not in use as that will lengthen its life. When I asked Kitchenaid, they said that they have had customers that have had the flat beater last as long as the mixer, but they have also had customers that the coating has chipped in 5-6 years. Of course, if the flat beater is dropped or hit against things, it may form small cracks.
