#3 currently crashing -
This is my 3rd roaster in 4.5 years so ..... guess I am just a slow learner.....I have recommended it to others as well.....sigh. When it works, it does a good job, but it does not last long....each one has died for a different reason. Now the motor is making a HUGE racket....one the timer died....another the auger stuck and I could have burnt the entire apt as the beans caught fire...massive smoke...thank goodness for fire alarms....

Expensive for a poor quality roaster -
This is an expensive machine for the quality. Mine failed after one year (beans get stuck in the auger; the motor is susceptible to burning up - Nesco's response was to send it back with a sticker on the front reading, "Don't leave machine unattended," which is apparently their solution for any items that might warrant recall.) After being completely repaired, the machine in fact failed AGAIN - but couldn't be repaired this time. Customer service just called to ask if they could throw it away.
Friends who have the Fresh Roast Plus 8 machine have been happily roasting for years; and at about $80, that's a good price-quality ratio. The Nesco is disappointing in every respect. I don't think it's unreasonable to be disappointed when a $150 machine fails annually. Look elsewhere for a good home roaster.

Like most reviews anywhere... -
....You never know which to believe. Add mine to that list.
I've had mine 3 years, and it is just now starting to act up( loud motor, slowing auger, occasionally stops until you push down on top portion). But I use it several times a week, and have likely done a couple hundred pounds of beans. (60-80 lbs per year)
Like any small appliance with a heating element, lots of plastic, and moving parts, it won't last forever. But...it's been a good value for me. YMMV.
Advice? Use good quality beans, don't overfill, watch it when you use it, and use your ears, nose, and eyes as it's roasting and you should be fine!

Awesome machine - February 3, 2010 -
Wow, can't believe I am reading about the same machine I have. We have had our machine for almost four years and it has gone through MANY pounds of coffee. We used to roast for friends of ours, and still roast for our kids - probably an average of at least two roasts a week. I just ordered the seal and screen for the top of the glass part of the roaster, but that is the only thing we have done to it. So easy to use!! We're thinking about buying one for a wedding gift for our daughter.

Motor problem -
I got also motor problem, I bought the machine10 months ago. Also the fact that I could not raise the temperature to get dark coffee in a short time, I will not recommended it.

Mine has worked flawlessly -
I have purchased two of these machines. One for me, the other for my mother-in-law who, at 76, loves the easy with which she can roast her own coffee. Both have performed flawlessly for more than 2 years now. It could not be more simple to roast your own coffee than with this machine! I also have a roaster that costs 4 times as much as this that offers more flexibility but at a huge premium. I would strongly recommend this roaster to anyone who is just starting out in the home-roasting hobby. You will not be disappointed.

Great machine--but . . . -
Have had one for two years and it still functions well. Have roasted more than 100 lbs of coffee so far (4 oz at a time) and I'll bet it will roast another 100 with no major issues. One problem I have is the screw, nut and bolt holding the handle on the glass part of the roaster became loose and the nut and bolt are lost. Additionally the filter above the glass is becoming unusable with burnt coffee oil buildup. Can not find replacement parts anywhere. Suggestions

Nesco CR-1000 Coffee Bean Roaster -
I have owned this product since June of 2009 and it has been an absolute headache. Beans bind in the auger assembly and will burn in an instant. The unit takes way to long to roast a small amount of beans. It cost me over $25.00 to send it in for repairs and it still has a tendency to bind and burn. You must baby sit the roast during the full 25 minute cycle. This is a waste of money and a terrible product for roasting beans at home. $150.00 down the drain....Jim S

Only two Years of Roasting -
My Nesco roaster did a good job for about two years and then the motor and blower quit working. I sent the machine to Nesco for repair; however, the repair bill was to to be over $90 not including shipping. I have decided to look for another type of machine, a more durable machine.

maybe i'm the lucky one. -
2 years.. not a single issue. sure.. i dont roast to a starbucks level.. and i clean the glass thing and vaccuum out the rest after every roasting. maybe that's why i have had no problems... the only thing is if you do like dark roasts, you have to limit the amount of beans to about 4 oz.. which is not much as roasters go...

Great Machine - Can't find replacement parts, tho -
I love the roaster, but I am having trouble finding a replacement part (the handle has come loose/screw lost--anyone know where i can buy a new handle assembly or even a complete new glass-and-handle replacement?). This roaster is inexpensive and I could always just buy another one--but I hate to replace something over such a trivial problem. In reply to the person having trouble with the filter--you can soak it in vinegar and it will clean easily--I do that every once in awhile.
