Q: Hi. I'm shopping for a juicer for someone who has serious digestive issues making him unable to tolerate insoluble fiber. I have read that centrifugal juicers are great for everything but leafy greens, but that masticating juicers don't do well with soft things (bananas, very ripe tomatoes and kiwis, etc). He would like to eat both, so I'm not sure what to buy (I'm debating between Breville and Omega). Someone recommended balling up leafy greens works well in a centrifugal juicer; do you know if this is correct?
I guess the most important question is which type does the best job of removing insoluble fiber overall.

A: For the lowest amount of pulp remaining in your juice I would actually recommend one of the centrifugal style Omega juicers like the model OM1000 and use with the Omega Juicer Filters part number 307225. This juicer will juice almost all fruits and vegetables but will not be very efficient with leafy greens. You mentioned "balling" the greens up prior to juicing. This will definitely improve your juice yield but will still not be as high as a masticating juicer. Unfortunately masticating juicers do leave a significantly higher percentage of pulp in your juice. Another option is to strain your juice after juicing and go with the masticating juicer.

Q: On the show "Fat Sick and Nearly Dead" this is the juicer Joe used and promotes yet he juiced tons of leafy greens. Please explain how this is possible when your other responses say this is not good for leafy greens.
A: The JE98XL Breville Juicer is an excellent juicer that will juice most fruits and vegetables with ease and are very powerful and user friendly but leafy greens are just not their strong suite. This juicer is a centrifugal style juicer and this style of juicer is not your most efficient choice for leafy greens. They will juice leafy greens but you will not get a very high juice yield when compared to the masticating style juicers. You can increase your leafy green juice yield by "balling" your greens up before juicing.

Q: My son makes sorbet with frozen fruit in his juicer. I think it is a Champion. Can I make sorbet in my Breville ?
A: No, unfortunately this feature is only available on the auger style/masticating juicers. This juicer has a filter basket with blade and the frozen fruit would not pass through the filter basket. The Champion Juicer works for this purpose because you simply use the "blank" screen allowing everything to pass through together.

Q: We are very fond of our Breville Juice Fountain Plus JE98XL. I am harvesting our grapes that have SEEDs. Can we use the JE98XL to process these grapes for juice? We have about 30 lbs.
A: While it is possible and Breville states that it will not harm the juicer, they
recommend using seedless grapes on low for the best juicing experience.
Below you will find 3 reasons why they make this recommendation:
1) The seeds if successfully broken up could taint the flavor of the
juice, making it bitter.
2) The seeds could become lodged in the blades and may impact
performance.
3) The seeds could be difficult to remove during cleaning if they become
lodged in the blades.

Q: I would love to have a juicer but why would I want one if it strips all the fiber out. To my knowledge we have to have fiber.
A: If you wish to keep the fiber in tact but want the ability to turn whole, raw foods into a drinkable liquid you might look into a high power blender like the Vita Mix or Blendtec. A juicer is an extractor that separates the juice from the pulp, while a high power blender leaves the pulp but emulsifies it into a smooth, drinkable liquid. Q: I was planning to purchase the Breville JE98XL juicer for a juicing diet. However, reviews I have read indicates this juicer does not do well with leafy greens such as kale, etc, a primary part of the diet. Can you speak to this? Thanks.
A: The Breville JE98XL is a centrifugal style juicer and this style of juicer as a general rule is not the best choice when leafy greens / wheatgrass are the primary ingredients being juiced. I would recommend a masticating style juicer like the Omega 8003, 8004, 8005, or 8006 if you want a juicer that is wonderful with fruits, vegetables, and leafy greens.

 The best juicer ever! -
I love this juicer! Easy to clean and easy to use. I owned a Golden Harvest Imperial juicer for many years. However, my old juicer was difficult to clean and had a narrow opening, so all of my fruits and vegetables had to be cut into small pieces in order to fit. This kept me from juicing. What I love about the Breville Juicer is how large the opening is and how easy it is to clean. Virtually all pieces are dishwasher safe and easily rinse off in the sink as well. I like that the Breville Juicer pushes the pulp out the back of the juicer into a tub; all you have to do is toss it out into the garbage. It is also an attractive piece (stainless steel matches my kitchen appliances). I was reluctant to buy it for a while because it is large and the price; but it is worth the price! What good is buying a cheaper juicer that you end up not using because it doesn't work well? This was definitely worth getting.

I Love my Breville Juicer!! I purchased a Jack LaLanne Juicer and it literally stopped working on me after 90 days. I did not abuse the machine...needless to say that was the best thing that could have happened to me, because I replaced it with a Breville Juice Fountain JE98XL! Let me tell you I use this machine 3 times a day and it is much easier to use and clean! I would totally recommend this Breville juice machine!!

This is my first juicer. Bought it after watching Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead. I don't have other juicers to compare it to, but I love it so far. I've had wonderful fruit based juices and vegetable based juices. All my veggie juices include leafy greens. I separate the thicker stems and run them on high, then ball up the leaves and do them on low. So far, great. I have had higher energy and find myself naturally decreasing my intake of coffee and alcohol.

Bought it for my father and he swears by it. He uses this JE98XL juicer multiple times a day, clean up is relatively easy and the amount of juice dispensed is more than adequate.  Easy to Clean? -
I'm a first time juicer. I bought this Breville Juice Fountain model because of the price and the claims that it was easy to clean. Perhaps folks meant that this Breville Juicer was easy to clean versus other juicer models, because I don't find it easy to clean. Between breaking down all of the parts, trying to rinse the grater without getting cut, and then dealing with all of the pulp, I rarely use it.
On the plus side, I have found some yummy things to do with the pulp. For example, I've made some tasty vegetable stock and stews with it. Otherwise the pulp is great for composting.
