Customer Questions About This Item:
Q: The whisk, is it a hand whisk? Is the spatula made of silicone?
A: The whisk is a professional 3''-diameter whisk that adds volume to whipped cream and creates stiff, fine-textured egg whites. The whisk attachment provides superior whipping and aerating. This is not a hand whisk, it is an additional attachment for the mixer. The spatula is plastic.

I have used the Cuisinart 7 speed hand mixer a dozen or so times in the relatively short time I've owned it and have been very pleased. It mixes well, cleans easily, and is comfortable to use. The only oddity is that, as other reviewers have remarked, the power momentarily surges when started causing a bit of splashing. However, it quickly slows down. I make far more of a mess when cooking than the hand mixer does, so I'm not too concerned. I'm glad I made this purchase.

Cuisinart HM-70 gives a good first impression. -
Pros:
+ plenty of power
+ wide range of speeds
+ "centerless" beaters are easy to clean and don't collect much anyway
+ always starts on speed "1".
Cons:
- "SmoothStart" feature is ruined by delayed cut in
- dough hooks are not included (though they are indeed available)
- fairly bulky and heavy, but this is acceptable compromise for power and durability (hopefully).
- No easy way to store mixer with attachments (plastic tubs or bowls are inexpensive solutions, however).
Though the cost is higher than discount brands, I will not complain about the cost unless it proves to be worth less. I selected this mixer in the first place because I want something built to last and not the disposable junk that we are marinated in today. I've used this mixer only a few times so far, but it seems to be a fairly high quality hand mixer with plenty of power for most jobs. I've mixed cookie dough, cake dough, and various toppings and been satisfied with the results.
The Cuisinart hand mixer seems to be built well and sits on its heel easily while keeping the beaters above the bowls I've used. Some have complained that the cord gets in the way, but the cord can rotate more than 90 degrees on a swivel under the back of the mixer and I find that it's equal or better than other hand mixers in this regard. All hand mixers have cords sticking out the back, so I don't see how this could be dramatically improved.
The beaters work fairly well, though I'm not sure if they mix as well as the "old-style" variety with flat, cupped blades and a center post or not. Some things are more certain: these beaters don't get as dirty as the old style, will sling most of the mix off in the bowl with proper technique, and clean easily in the sink. Some have reported that the beater ejector seems rubbery on this line of hand mixer, but I think this is simply the way it's designed to work. It seems plenty sturdy enough and feels fine to me, but time will tell if I'm right. I wouldn't fret this matter, since I've seen no reports that anyone has broken the ejector.
Okay, the only real bad news for me is that the other reviewers are correct when they criticize the "SmoothStart" feature. The electronic regulator works very well to control mixing speed at lower settings, but of course cannot keep the beater speeds from slowing down once you've reached the maximum power output. This is logical and is no problem. However, when you first turn the mixer on, it surges to a fairly high speed before the electronics can "catch up" and begin the slow start process. This makes the slow start completely useless because if splattering was going to happen, it will have already happened before the slow start feature stepped in. I consider this a major flaw in the hand mixer; not because it makes the hand mixer less useful, but because the slow starting is a major selling point of the product. One lesson which manufacturers so easily forget is that if you advertise a feature as a major convenience, it had better work as advertised.
I hope to receive many years of service from this hand mixer, so I plan to update this review in the future to report on its durability or mention any other problems I may experience.
