Kitchen Aid Grain Mill Attachment

    Works Perfectly - We got this to mill grain to make beer and it works perfectly on all settings. Our first batch turned out awesome!

    Grits of Coarse Ground Flour Only - I bought this Kitchenaid Grain Mill Attachment to grind hard winter wheat berries to make whole wheat flour to make bread, but was unable to adjust the burrs to make a fine flour suitable for baking. Regrinding was messy and didn't result in much improvement. I think this has been my only KitchenAid disappointment. I sold it on eBay with a suitable warning and recently purchased the Messerschmidt grain mill (now Family Grain Mill) and it does grind finely enough to make whole wheat bread, although still not as fine as pastry flour. The Family Grain Mill also has an optional hand crank base so I can grind flour during an electrical outage.

    Excellent product but doesn't do everything - I would have given it 4.5 if that was a choice. This is a crushing/grinding mill that can not produce a flour as fine as all purpose commercial flours, let alone pastry flour. The other issue is my smaller Kitchen Aid stand mixer gets pretty warm if I grind too much at one time, so I limit my batches to about 6 cups. That said, it's great for everything from breakfast cereals to rustic breads, pancakes, waffles and muffins. I like to mix my grains so I use different combinations of wheat, oats, brown rice, barley, spelt, kamut, rye, flax seed and corn. It's not easy to find corn with a low enough moisture content for any mill but lots of local stores carry everything else. I find the taste of the flour from this Kitchen Aid Grain Mill is better than the finer powders produced by the impeller style but it took some practice to get the texture the way I like it.

    Gluten Free Flour - I had to experiment a bit, but now I have the best rice or wild rice flours. I like that. with the Kitchen Aid Grain Mill I can choose which flour to make without being at the mercy of the large companies. Whatever type of rice you buy can be milled and made into greatness.
