For anyone who doesn't truly know what a percolator is, we will be glad to explain a little bit of how this differs from a tea kettle and a coffee maker. If you could combine a tea kettle and a coffee maker you would most definitely get a percolator. The percolator has a thin tube that goes up the center and leads into a chamber (where you put your coffee ground). As the Water is heated in the bottom of the Percolator the water is forced up the tube and then seeps through the grounds and back down into the water chamber. This will continually repeat until the coffee is ready to drink. There is a reason the percolators come with a warmer and not a flat bottom for the stove top. A tea kettle can boil water until it whistles and is at ultimate temperature. If you boil coffee it will have a bitter taste, and since the coffee is dripping back down into the water chamber on the percolator it would become bitter. Percolators use a perfect temperature system that allows the brew to come out just perfect every time. Most percolators still need attention, and timed, so you don't over heat the coffee. Essentially the more you let the percolator run the strong the coffee will become, up to a certain point. This very unique system produces great coffee, and is one not to be overlooked. Percolators are offered in many different brands such as Farberware, Cuisinart, and Dualit. Plus they come in sizes from 2 cups all the way to 12 and everywhere in between.
