Q: I've read reviews that said the gear BOX was made of plastic a few years ago and it caused problems. My question is if/what year did you go back to all metal gear boxes? Are all the parts inside now metal or are there still plastic parts as well?

A: The KSM150's still have the nylon worm gear. This is a protection for the motor. If there would be something in the bowl that would stop the beater from turning, this gear would strip before the motor would burn out. It is a repairable part and has been in the tilt head units since the tilt-head design was introduced in the 1940's.

I treated myself to the Caviar 5-Quart KitchenAid Artisan Stand Mixer as retirement gift. I figured I would be doing more creative cooking than ever with my new found "free time." LOL After 35 years of marriage and almost as many hand mixers, I felt I deserved a nice treat. The mixer was certainly no disappointment. It's awesome and retirement could not be sweeter or better mixed.

Buying this Caviar black Kitchenaid was a dream come true, and I have never regretted my purchase. This is something that I have wanted for some time, and was finally able to afford it because I found Everything Kitchens. I was a little nervous about weather I would like the color caviar black, "In Person". Let me just say, "It was even better", in person. So dark and sparkling. Beautiful. I still get excited when I get to use my Kitchen Aid Artisan mixer.lol
