Q: I am looking for a Taylor thermometer/timer which has a long cord between the timer base and the probe. This cord enables the probe to be in a piece of meat in the oven, while the base is outside on the counter. Is this the model?

A: Yes, This thermometer does have a 5' cord. In the manual it states that you can use it in the oven but also states: DO NOT USE THE CORD AND PROBE FOR OVEN TEMPERATURES HIGHER THAN 200° C OR 392° F.

Q: my thermometer came with a plastic coated cord i am not sure if that is safe to place the probe in the meat and close the oven door on the plastic cord

A: The cord is safe to put in food that is in an oven with temperatures not highter than 200° C OR 392° F.

Q: We have a Taylor Thermometer 1478-21 the probe aperently has a broken wire near the probe ti lill work if you bend the wire back at a 180 degrees What I want to know is if ti si posable to get a new one or is it cheaper to buy a new unit

A: I do not find replacement parts on their website. It would be best to buy a new one to insure that it is working at its best.
