Q: If making smoothies with ice cubes is this the best mixer?
A: This is a great choice for making smoothies. However, without knowing more about your application, I'd be hard pressed to say that it was the best one for you. This one is a commercial blender, intended for restaurant use. If you are not using the Vitamix for a restaurant, you might want to look at the Vitamix home blenders, as they have a longer warranty. However, the Vitamix commercial blenders are cheaper, and very high quality, so if you don't mind the shorter warranty, this would be a great choice. This blender will pulverize ice into snow in a very short amount of time.

Q: What is the difference between item #1002 and #1003 ?

A: The only difference that I can see is that the 1002 Vitamix is 64 ounce, and the 1003 Vitamix is 48 ounce, so they come with a different blender jar.
