The Acme Under a Different Name - |
August 31, 2008
|
This is basically the famous Acme juicer under a different name. Waring bought out Acme a number of years ago. It is also still sold under the Acme name for those of you who know juicers. I had an Acme Juicer for 20 years along with a Champion Juicer. I picked up one of these combo packages on sale. This juicer will extract more juice than the pulp ejector Juicers that are all the rage now. The basket for pulp is huge compared to almost all of those (I own a L'Equip and an Omega pulp ejector). True, after one juices a big glass of juice one has to stop and empty the pulp container. Because the pulp basket is so large and because the heavy blade wheel is separate, this only takes a few seconds if one wants to keep juicing. Not a problem. Cleanup is also very easy because, unlike some other juicers I've used, the tiny holes on the basket are almost polished and pulp doesn't fight getting washed away with this Waring Juicer. Additionally, the disposable paper filters for the basket that are sold under the Acme and Omega brand names also fit this Waring. Then, all one has to do is toss the strip. I don't know whether this Waring juicer would be considered commercial quality because of its size, but it certainly is for its quality. I have been juicing since the 70's and I'd recommend this heavy-duty juicer to anyone wanting one to keep. One additional point: remember if you are juicing daily, the cutting wheel is going to get dull in 2-3 years and need replacement. This Waring uses the same cutting wheel as the popular Omega home juicers of the same type, along with Waring/Acme selling it. Will all these infomercial juicers still have parts available after 25 years? I doubt it.
