Q: Can I use this hand mixer for my protein shakes?

A: I would not recommend this immersion blender for that, if it is for just mixing one protein shake at a time. The 14" length listed for this Waring Immersion Blender is for the shaft only. The motor / handle length is not part of that, and so this would be really bulky for just mixing one protein drink. For protein drinks, I'd take a look at the MX1050XT Waring Blender at http://www.everythingkitchens.com/waring_commercial_blender_MX1050.html or look at Blendtec or Vitamix blenders.
