The quality I've come to expect from KitchenAid Review by

It works as expected, no issues. I weigh the coffee beans into the filter-lined basket, dump them into the hopper, then grind them directly into the basket. No mess. I re-insert the bottom jar just to give the grinder an attractive balanced look on the counter when not in use.

    Burr Grinder Review by

I have loved my grinder for a few years now - then it broke! The gears that turn the burrs are attached to the motor and are made of plastic. It does not appear in the parts diagram, only the motor and the burrs. So I have found that replacing them is impossible. It's very disturbing that KitchenAid produces such a robust product then uses plastic gears for its heart and doesn't even show them in the parts schematic. There are 6 of these plastic gears (including the housing which is geared), kind of a lot of stuff to miss. The units are still for sale but only the parts that don't need replacing are available. If you want a fantastic expensive grinder that will only last a few years and cant be repaired, get it! You wont regret it - until it fails!

One of the best grinders for the cost Review by

I love this grinder. I've had it for a little over 2 months. It has consistent grinds on any dial (corse and fine). I have ground for french press, pour over, and espresso and it pulled great for all brew methods. The noise is loud, but that's going to be the same for most burr grinders.

Replaces my older Kitchenaid Burr Grinder Review by

My older model Kitchenaid Pro Burr Grinder was still working fine till the plastic drive gears on the motor transmission started breaking off. At that point the motor could not turn the grinders. I was disappointed since although it was nearly 5 yrs old, I only used it once a week at most during the period. No replacement parts were available anywhere so I couldn't repair it. After looking at the grinders available, I decided to just replace with the same type unit as many of the glass parts etc. are interchangeable and very costly to replace individually.

    Workhorse Grinder Review by

We bought this unit to grind botanicals for our craft distillery. It makes short work of the juniper berries and pinon nuts we use in our gin and gets them to a size we can then transfer to our food processor to blend with the other botanicals for the gin.

Grinds coffee well but loud Review by

I bought this two months ago after my old burr coffee grinder stopped working. This one is considerably louder - to the point that my wife wondered whether it was supposed to be making such a loud noise as it grinds. Some of the pieces seemed loose too (it vibrates a lot), and the ground receptacle at the bottom isn't flush - so a lot of coffee grounds escape. So it's messier and louder... but it produces a good and consistent grind. Works well for coarser French press, medium drip/pour over and moka and fine for espresso. So I stick with the mess and noise. Plus I bought it already.

Very happy with this professional grinder Review by

We've had many other coffee grinders in the past, and they were like toys in comparison to this grinder. The Kitchen Aid grinder is substantial and a real work horse, as we grind every day. It also is attractive and really adds to your bistro coffee look in the kitchen :o)

Great addition to my kitchen. Now I can have on-demand ground coffee anytime. No matter preference. Drip coffee, French press, or espresso! The only drawback is supplied receptacle is fragile and does let grounds make somewhat of a mess.

Nice but could use a little tweaking. Review by

It does a nice job and it's very easy to use but the glass container the grounds are put into doesn't meet up to the grinder flushly and some grounds will spill out unless you hold it up. It's a big loud too but other than that it's awesome.

    Coffee mill Review by

I have only had the machine a short time. That said, it is very well made. The grind process is relatively quiet and the resulting coffee is milled to my satisfaction. I do not use the machine to produce multiple variations of grind. I use it to produce coffee that is good for drip and French press brewing. I purchased this to replace a 50 year old KitchenAid coffee mill. I was influenced by the high quality and durability of the older machine.

    Great Burr Grinder Review by

Bought this grinder specifically for doing pour over coffee. Fine ground control leads to pulling all the nuanced flavors from the coffee bean, important to me as I buy very high quality beans. Do yourself a favor and follow suit. You'll love it. The design is classic kitchenaid and build quality is second to none.

    Eureka Review by

I owned one of these coffee grinders for years and loved it so much I bought one for daughter and daughter-in-law, and theirs are still going strong. Mine, the burrs became worn and at the time I needed to replace them, KitchenAid was no longer selling this grinder and no one there responded to my inquiries about where to find parts.. I found some dealers online who had replacement parts but were charging an outrageous amount for them, knowing they had us over a barrel without the needed parts. Sadly, I walked it out to the garage and put it in the box for charity and bought a different brand. I stumbled across this a couple of weeks ago, while looking for something else and immediately ordered a new one. It arrived today and I am a happy coffee drinker. It is smaller and lighter than the previous one, but that is not a problem for me. I ground up some beans and it works wonderfully well, just like the original. I am not sure what went on in the interim when it, or the parts weren't available previously , but i forgive them and celebrate the return. The only thing I see different that I might question is the collection jar doesn't fit tight to the machine. I only grind what I need as I need it, so that won't be a problem

Great top of the line coffee grinder!! Review by

Great grinder and high quality. It is a little higher priced but after using a less expensive one for many years when went to replace it I wanted a better quality machine.. The less expensive grinders are very loud and the parts are mostly plastic and tends to pick a lot of static electricity making a mess with clinging grounds. This grinder has metal parts and glass containers for holding the beans and ground coffee - no static clinging - no mess!! Not nearly as loud and grinding adjustments are very good and easy to use. Very attractive counter-top appliance, especially when you add the KitchenAid coffee make of the same color setting next to it... Looking forward to many years of continuous trouble free service... The only negative thing I would say is that the bottom glass container that catches the ground coffee should be made of thicker glass construction similar to the top bean container. The one that it has seems a little fragile to me and I'm afraid it might break easily...

    Works great Review by

Like the mixer, the grinder is a very well made appliance. The storage dish and collection bowl are both glass and the plastic on the knob feels sturdy. There are many grind settings from coarse to fine and finding one that works for me wss easy. I use a French press and find that some beans grind different than others so a quick turn of the knob in front let's me make a change easy. The switch is also heavy duty and feels well built. It does make some noise when on so I wouldn't expect to be stealthy in the mornings and not wake people up. You know it's on and when the house is dead quiet, others will too depending I the size and layout of your house. It's not excessive, but it doesn't whisper. Cleanup is easy and the collection dish doesn't hold any static as far as I can tell. It's not cheap, but it is a quality piece you can count on to last for years to come.

Great looking, well built, rugged grinder. Review by

Been wanting this coffee grinder for a number of years, I'm pretty happy with it so far, it works quite well. Its rugged, nicely designed and quality built. I'm hoping it will last for a very long time. It's also a very good looking appliance. It's definitely far superior to the 50-60 dollar cheaper ones I have been using for a number of years. I'm fairly certain it will be doing its job for a very long time.

    Good Grinder Review by

Before buying the KitchenAid, I used a hand-crank coffee mill, which worked great. In comparison, the KitchenAid is much easier to use and results in no carpal tunnel, so that's a good thing. It quickly produces a consistent, even grind and is not too noisy. The only issue I have with it is that the grounds cup moves as the machine vibrates and grounds fall outside the cup, on to the table and grinder base - the cup should be held more securely.

Head of the class Review by

I knew I would own this coffee grinder someday when I could justify the cost. When my the current grinder broke my wife convinced me to take the plunge. The grind constancy and the visual control of the amount of coffee being ground might this unit a winner. I also like the ease of changing the grind size depending the brewing method.

Very solid coffee grinder with good performance Review by

After reading an article in the NYT about how a good burr grinder is vital for good coffee, we decided to look for one. I did fairly extensive research on line and also asked a friend who is very fussy about coffee. I looked at many models with fancy features (built in scales, timers, etc.) but decided that the important thing is reliability and an even grind, especially at the coarse end of the spectrum, since we use a French press. The Kitchenmaid appealed because of its robust build of metal and glass and its simple design. So far we are very pleased: the ground beans are quite even in consistency, the grinder is easy to use, and the coffee is vastly better than when we used our blade grinder. I do wish that the Kitchenmaid were a bit smaller and quieter, but I suppose that would compromise its robustness

Excellent burr coffee grinder Review by

We have had our new burr grinder for several weeks and are very happy with it. There is very little static cling to the glass carafe (unlike the plastic one that other brands use) and the grind is even and just right for the drip coffee we make. It allows a number of settings for different types of coffee preparation and fits under my cabinets. We have had our KitchenAid mixer for 20 years and it is still going strong - anticipating the coffee grinder will perform equally well!!!

    Excellent and Rugged! Review by

I bought this after much research of conical burr grinders, which were reviewed on various blogs as either inexpensive junk or over-priced, unreliable and fragile. This flat-burr (just like the grocery store grinders) grinder seems to be built for the long haul and is built with user-maintenance in mind. I have always used a hand burr grinder for years, so I am thankful to be able to grind my beans in seconds without effort! Also, I love the grind quality and ease of adjustment for said grind quality.

I have had mine for a couple of years and love it. Very cool style and heavy. It is a beast. However, it is a little noisy but less noisy then the typical hand held grinders with blades. My cleaning lady finally broke the glass jar today. Not sure what to do about that.

    Works great Review by

This works really good, better then I expected. This grinds very fine for me. I used to use a braun and Cuisinart chopper that looks and functions like a mini blender. I would stop and start it and shake it when it was on so all the coffee beans would be ground evenly to a course powder. But, I was always worried the chopper might turn on from a short and slice my fingers off. I say this because the last real coffee grinder we had was a Cuisinart that would start all by itself, perhaps a short. It only lasted for 11 months. Well, this new KitchenAid grinder is wonderful. We use it every day. It works even better then the choppers. The unit feels really solid. We've owned a KitchenAid standup mixer for over 32 years and it still works like the day we bought it. The KitchenAid grinder should be a solid performer for years to come.

    No replacement parts?!?! Review by

Not a big deal really, my Grind Jar fell into the floor the other day and broke. Its great that its made of glass because of the anti-static qualities compared to plastic. But when it breaks, the machine will be ugly on the bench and the function will also suffer when using another container to catch the coffee coming out ground. My machine is 6 years old and I've had no other problems with it, solid! Too bad that Kitchen Aid don't support their products for longer period of time. It's like Toyota would stop making parts for the MKII Prius when it went out of production. Seriously bad, will never buy Kitchen Aid products again!

Mostly a great grinder Review by

Overall I'm happy with my purchase. I'm impressed that I am able to grind the darkest and oilest of coffee beans without fail, clogging or bogging down. The grinder is of substantial weight and good quality except the glass container that the grinds fall into. It is very thin and fragile. It actually makes me a bit nervous when using. I'm hoping in the future Kitchenaid will offer a replacement bottom glass cylinder as substantial as the top glass hopper which holds the whole beans.

Loved my grinder until..... Review by

I bought my grinder in 2011. My son bought one as well. Both our grinders have failed. Mine last week and my son's about a year ago. Both grinders have broken plastic gears that turns the burr-shaft assembly which renders this grinder as totally useless. Our search to find replacement gears/motor/gear assembly have been futile. Apparently replacement parts are no longer available. We paid a good deal of money for these grinders and expected them to work for more than 4 and 5 years so it is particularly disappointing that one can not even repair them. My love of all things Kitchenaid is certainly on the decline and I will seriously reconsider purchasing this brand in the future.

KitchenAid don't supply replacement parts Review by

I have had this grinder for 5.5 years and have really enjoyed using it. It looks fantastic in red and is easy to use. When it started making a bit of an odd noise I thought, no problems, I shall get it serviced and it will be like new and I'll be able to once again enjoy my cup of espresso each day. Only to find out that KitchenAid don't supply spare parts. It's only just over 5 years old. I should still be able to get parts for this machine. I'm really annoyed. It's not cheap and it should last longer than this. And there should be ample supply of parts for it. Now it's just sitting on my bench waiting to be thrown out. I know that we are a throw away society but not of products that are marketed as premium and long lasting. Makes me think twice about purchasing anything else that KitchenAid produce. My wife might have to re-think her wanting a mixer from these guys...I mean it might look great, but how long will it actually last?

Unfortunately, the grinds are very inconsistent with too many fines which can make the coffee taste over extracted if enough contact time is allowed to bring out the good flavors and body. In my opinion, kitchenaid would drastically improve this unit by simply using higher quality burrs with sharper cutting edges which would cut through the beans and produce a cleaner grind.Other than that....this unit is great and worth the price.

    KitchenAid Burr Grinder Review by

I like the grinder very much. I would like it to have a timer and a ground jar more heavy duty with a handle, jar is to large for someone with small hands, I use my Bodum jar.

Poor quality on the inside Review by

Bought the previous one some time ago (5KCG100) and apart from the metal/glass material on the outside the inside lacks quality due to poor material choice. The gear box and all gear-wheels are made of plastic. In my case the gear-wheels broke and you are not able to replace them because you are not able to buy them as spare part. According to customer service I'm supposed to buy a new grinder. Thanks Kitchenaid, I'm off to another company.

Best Reliable Coffee Grinder You Can Buy Review by

I have three of these. Bought one brand new and bought my neighbor's who moved and could not cart it but had bought a second as love this grinder so much I thought I better buy a second just in case first one wore out or went bad part wise. Then third I grabbed neighbors as she nearly gave it to me and thought I wish I had known I would have a free backup naturally before bought the second new one. Well, I am still using the original first bought one. It is superb. I grind my coffee beans every morning. I have lost track of how many years I have had it but I do know my coffee maker has changed manufacturing style, on second style same manufacture coffee maker, but third coffee maker, but still on the very first Burr Grinder KitchenAid manufactured. The grinder blade thankfully is still working and has not been replaced even and I use it everyday once. I absolutely hope KitchenAid will never change one manufacturing item of this grinder. It is super. PS: I still will keep my backup ones as price has gone up a little bit on new ones and I feel so secure knowing I have a top of line coffee grinder that lasts for years too. They are valuable items.

    Outstanding! Review by

We have had our for years and it never fails to produce a consistent and accurate grind. The collection cup works extremely well so that your counter doesn't end up with a layer of coffee dust.

    Best Coffee Grinder Review by

We have had this coffee grinder since 2002- use it many, many times per day- works like a charm. During our last move, the glass carafe cracked, I was able to find one online (after some searching)- whew, not quite the same quality as the original but close. LOVE it (we have the Pewter color).

Do Not buy this coffee grinder Review by

The coffee grinder works well but the customer service is bad. I have had the machine long enough that I need to replace the grind burrs and KitchenAid does not have the replacement parts. There customer service rep suggested that I try a Google search or checking with small appliance repair businesses to try to find the parts. You can't even get replacement parts for the current model. With dull burrs this is a piece of expensive junk.

    Poor customer service Review by

This is a new model that appears unchanged from the old model except that it is no longer part of the Pro Line. Presumably this is to allow reduction in the duration of the warranty. The glass grind jar breaks and has been on back order for a year. I was recently told the grind jar was in stock and would arrive in 7-10 days. It never arrived, and I was then told it was back ordered. Customer service seems to have no clue.

    Grinds collecting jar Review by

I broke my grinds jar.I found the 4 cup MR. Coffee, coffee pot is a perfect fit under the grinder. They are tempered glass so they won't break as easy. You can find these at flea mkts. and garage sales for under $5 works great. For a tighter fit I put a drink coaster under the pot for a tighter seal. (the cardboard kind they put out at bars and restaurants) Use 2 if you get thin ones.

I used to grind using portable small grinders but they don't last very long.....I finally decided to get this pro line series grinder and it's been grind for years with no fail. I wanted to buy an extra coffee grind jar but I can't seem to find this part...not even kichenaid website has it listed....it used to be but not anymore....I wonder where I can get it!
