Attractive design, but the poor durability is soon evident with light use. Supported by a questionable manufacturer's warranty. Overall best to avoid this machine. Review by

My own experience was with a KPES100, but the current KES2101 is effectively the same machine with the same physical size, same placement of buttons and equipment, and part diagrams that are nearly identical. Obviously the KES2101 is the new model, in name only, for KitchenAid's current effort to resume selling their Pro Line espresso machine.

My machine was purchased June, 2008, worked well for the first year, but then developed various leaks, electrical issues, etc. (ca fall, 2009), only to soon die (February, 2010).

KitchenAid customer support asked that I return the machine (February, 2010), with a provided courier waybill. With follow up I was told a replacement machine was not available and when I asked that my espresso machine be returned was told it was unavailable, either destroyed, or sent to a third party repair depot. In compensation I was offered a token amount of money that was increased when refused, but remained significantly less than the recommended retail price and significantly less than the cost of replacement based on the then available online supplier offerings.

Prior to writing this review (February, 2015) KitchenAid customer support offered a 20% discount, which is less than the discounting commonly available online for this espresso machine.

Obviously the warranty is not "hassle free" and a replacement machine seems an unlikely outcome. The KES2101 has a 5 year warranty, but my experience suggests the length does not matter.

This espresso machine is expensive for the unreliable quality and questionable warranty support. At the common $900 ~ $1000+ market place price it should have a reliable life of several years in a residential setting. There are many better alternative espresso machines available at this price point. (Posted on 2/26/15)
