    Customer Questions

Questions on KitchenAid Coffee Maker - KCM0402ER

      • Q:  Can you stop the brewing process to make an 8 oz cup of coffee or will it only make a 16 oz travel mug?
      • A:  The Kitchen Aid Personal Coffee Maker is not designed to be stopped in the midst of the brewing cycle. However, you may make a smaller cup of coffee by simply adding less water to the water tank before starting the brew cycle.
      • Q:  Can you pre set it for morning coffee?
      • A:  The KitchenAid Personal Coffee Maker does not have the programmable brew start feature.
      • Q:  How much coffee is typically required to put in the supplied filter?
      • A:  Angela, the KitchenAid Personal Coffee Maker can use perferred scoops based on the strength of coffee you desire.
      • Q:  How longdoes it take to brew a cup of coffee?
Why is the brown more expensive?
      • A:  Hello Linda,

What a great item to inquire about and pretty color as well!

The KitchenAid Personal Coffee Maker - Empire Red, has a start to finish time of 4 minutes and 30 seconds.
Start time would mean from the time the water is placed into the machine, coffee grounds are placed, and brew time.

The reasoning for the Espresso Brown being more expensive in price, is that we received a promotional offer as a retailer for purchase the Empire Red and Contour Silver at a discount. The Espresso Brown and Onyx were not a part of that promotional offer, which is why the price is more for the Espresso Brown and Onyx Black, versus the Empire Red and Contour Silver.

I hope this helps answer your questions! Have a great day Linda!

    Love it Review by

My first Kitched Aid item and I Love it! I also have Nespresso coffee machine that I got tired of. I like that for this coffee maker I'm not limited to coffee pods. It's very easy to clean and it doesn't take too much space. It looks cure too!

Easy breezy coffee maker Review by

I had an other maker one cup coffee maker that bellied up on me. Needed a replacement so the research started. I opted for this Kitchenaid model. It's great. I can make a cup or 18 oz and share. Love being able to use my ground coffee, don't care for K-cups. Use it with a Melitta filters, clean up is so easy. The design of the water tank is easy to fill from either the tap or pouring it in from a cup. Liked the color selections also.

Friendly addition, great cup of brew Review by

This coffee maker, standing tall, makes its mark on my counter, its red color perfectly matching my other appliances. It brews a tasty cup in about 5-7 minutes. The great thing is that the coffee, while perculating, lands directly into the insulated travel mug that comes with the coffee maker. Once done, the unit shuts off, which saves in electricity. And the coffee tastes great. The only thing that sometimes takes a bit of careful attention is adding water to the reservoir - the opening is a bit small. That is why I am giving it 4.5 out of 5 stars.

My mom LOVES it Review by

I'm so glad I bought this coffee maker for my mom....her old one was a personal one-cup maker also but it wasn't arthritis-friendly NOR did it have a insulated cup to keep her coffee warm; so, she had to resort to purchasing a mug warmer which ended up only being another thing to clutter her night stand. This new KitchenAid coffee maker is: * easy to use, * has a great insulated cup (so no need to purchase mug warmers!) * makes her coffee in her insulated travel mug so she can take it with her (instead of leaving the cold coffee at home OR taking a hot mug that's been sitting on a warmer)! * and it brews a great tasting cup of coffee! Plus...it looks great in our kitchen next to my KitchenAid stand mixer!

I love this coffee maker Review by

I bought this about 3 weeks ago when my keruig quit working. I like that you only have to put just the water you need for your cup of coffee and it has a basket so you can use regular coffee. And it has a automatic shut off when not using. I would recommend this product.

The Coffee Maker I've Been Looking For!! Review by

My long time drip coffee maker finally gave up the ghost sending me on a search for a new appliance. Found this one online & ordered immediately based on size, color, styling & description of functionality. The coffee maker has more than lived up to expectations. First, it looks great on the counter. Second, very ease to use! Coffee goes easily into the swing-out filter basket. Water pours into the top. I love the 18 ounce serving size - not too much, not too little. The insulated mug which was included sits perfectly in the machine as well as in my car's cup holder. It's comfortable to hold and does a nice job holding the coffee's temperature. Clean up is easy and operation is simple. Absolutely love it!!

    Excellent Item Review by

I think the only drawback of this nice coffee maker would be that it is a little larger than I thought it would be. It looks nice on the countertop, makes just the right amount out of 4 selections. The water tank could be just a little lighter so you can see how full it is getting, but all in all, I would definitely recommend this item to my friends and family. Thank you Kitchen aid for such a nice coffee maker!

Kitchen Aid Personal Coffee Maker Review by

I love this coffeemaker. You can choose the number of ounces you want for your cup. It's simple to fill the water reservoir with it being labeled for ounces on the side. It has a metal filter that is simple and fast to clean. It makes your coffee really quickly. If I'm making instant, I just put it in my cup and put in water and push a button. Fast and easy. I use it to make the instant Chai Tea. I totally recommend it for making 1 cup at a time, as I'm the only coffee/hot tea drinker in the house. The only thing I would change is to make the reservoir more transparent where you have the ounces marked.

I bought one of these a year and a half ago, I love it as I am the only coffee drinker in the House. I would like to see Kitchenmaid make the option to either have the basket swing to the left or to the right. I am right handed and its awkward to put the coffee in the basket to the left side.

    Best ever!! Review by

I received this coffee maker as a promo from a local casino. It blows away my old, fancy-shmancy coffee maker! Get ready because I'm going to use the word love a lot..... I love how simple and easy it is to use and clean. I love the removable water reservoir with its little handle. I love the reusable gold filter and again, the little handles on it and the washable basket too. I love being able to use regular ground coffee, making it as strong or weak as I like and not having to use expensive K-cups or pods. I love that I can make one large 18 oz cup instead of two separate smaller regular cups. I love the included stylish steel cup. I love the counter footprint and the sleek design. And most of all, I love the taste of the end result! Addressing some other's concerns... It is indeed taller than stated, being a little under 16 tall. As for the cup, it can easily leak if tipped but does not leak at all when just jostled around on a bumpy drive. Some say the cup doesn't keep the coffee hot enough for long but I prefer my coffee a tad less scalding so again, not an issue for me. The gray water reservoir is a bit difficult to see the markings and water line but hardly a problem at all and frankly, is more attractive than had it been clear plastic. Worth the trade-off. Lastly, the fact that there is no warming plate is hardly a problem when it comes to a single-serve machine. Once you make a cup, you remove it and drink it. No need for a warmer when there's no remaining half-full carafe. Like my review title says, this is the best personal coffee maker I have ever owned. My friend also got one from the casino and agrees completely.

Clean Looking and Easy to Use Review by

I'm the only one in my household that drinks coffee and this is perfect for just one person. You'll likely want to buy more of the travel mugs if you're like me and don't want to clean it every day, but that's not a problem. It's easy to use, clean looking on the counter top and doesn't take up a ton of space

My Personal Coffee Maker is my Personal Favorite Review by

I have had a similar Cuisinart coffeemaker, as well as a Keurig single-serve coffee maker, but this KitchenAid personal coffee maker is my all time favorite! To top it off, the customer service is just as great! I had a problem with the brewing system on my Keurig and was told I needed to buy a new one. What a waste! I had a problem with the off/on switch on my KitchenAid and they sent me a new coffeemaker and asked me to send them my old one. I like the idea of recycling and I still love my KitchenAid Personal Coffee Maker!

I was looking to replace my 10 cup coffee maker with a 1 cup and was consider another popular brand but after some research, decided on the Kitchen Aid due to reliability ratings and more flexibility in not having to purchase special pre-packaged coffee. It makes a very tasty cup of coffee and is quick, plus I can also use it to make hot water for tea, hot chocolate, etc.

    Great product Review by

I really love this product. Easy, fast, reliable, makes great coffee in no time and looks good, too. What I don't like is the mug. Really disappointing you can't throw it in your bag and actually it use as a thermos. With a better mug, one you can tilt without having coffee all over the place, I would give this coffeemaker 5 stars. Please, Kitchen Aid, give us that mug!

I just bought this and so far it works perfectly. I'm the only one who drinks coffee and this is perfect for just me. It's easy to use and I can use my own coffee and its a lot cheaper than using prepackaged individual serving cups. Plus I can brew a whole travel mug full without having to do two cycles. The only downfall is the travel mug doesn't keep the coffee hot very long.

    The Quality Continues.... Review by

After my one cup perculator abruptly quit working I set off on a replacement search. After assessing its performance I found it lacking is several areas: 1) Only made one cup per filling. 2) Coffee wasn't strong/hot enough 3) Pain to clean the area after percolation and the area as a whole. Did some more reasearch and narrowed my choices to three. While comparing them I happened to look over at the kitchen counter and saw the Kitchen Aid mixer I had purchased for my wife some 20 years ago. The decision was simple. The KA Personal Coffee Maker is attractive and would enhance any kitchen decor. Coffee is made easily and in an amout sufficient for 2 to 3 cups. Flavor is outstanding and its nice and hot! Clean up is a breeze. Additionally, the full size thermal cup is great to grab and run and retains heat quite well. In fact, I think I'll go have a cup right now!

GOOD CUP OF COFFEE.....BAD BURN Review by

I received my new KitchenAid personal brewer in the mail today and I was thrilled. I immediately took it out of the box and started reading the manual. I set it up per the instructions and started to give everything a quick but thorough wash. Trying to stray away from K-cups but still have the convenience of a personal brewer as I am the only one who drinks coffee most of the time. I have been looking at the KitchenAid coffee makers for some time now and was super excited to get this one. I was also going to buy the Pour Over brewer as well for weekends and when I have guest, but now I am not so sure. I expected the machine to be a little more heavy duty (because of the name and all) but it is mostly plastic and is very light. Filling the tank was simple enough and so I ran the first brew cycle with just plain cool water. I heard it beep from across the house which was nice, especially if you are like me and start your coffee and walk away. When I returned (roughly 7-10 minutes later) I dumped the cup out into the sink and began refilling the tank again. It was when I was replacing the tank on the top of the brewer that it burned the hell out of my hand. You see there is a vent hole located directly on top of the brewer but behind the water tank so if you are not careful you will burn the heck out of yourself. I mean a legitimate burn, there isn't even a CAUTION HOT or a STEAM symbol near it. After I bandaged myself up I finally was able to try my first cup out of my new but dangerous machine. I am pretty disappointed in this product and I am glad I did not order both machines at the same time.

I have used this for almost a year. Something happened to it that it would not send out the water so we called and got a new replacement. I do not think there are normally issues with this brand but the people were very friendly with a return and replacement. I use it for tea each morning and my husband uses for his coffee.

I love these coffee makers! Review by

Perfect water temperature and I can adjust coffee strength for each cup as I feel like it. I have owned three of these and each one has had a problem with the on/off switch after a while. This is a disappointment but still not overshadow the fact that this is a great coffee maker. Much better than most of the single-cup, cartridge-filter-type such as a Keurig since I can use any coffee I like, make it as strong or weak as I like without the wasteful plastic cups that the Keurig uses. Good job KitchenAid!

    Love the Convenience Review by

I have been using this coffee maker for about two months. I have had two other manufacturers single serve coffee makers and this KitchenAid exceeds the others in ease of filling water reservoir, flavor of brew and clean-up. Because I choose to use paper filters, the only bit of criticism I can make is, I find it easier to close the brew basket if I trim about 1/4 from the filter.

The coffee maker is perfect for just the two of us. We no longer have 3 day old coffee in a large old 12 cup carafe. Perfect Brewer Review by

I enjoy this coffee maker so much that I will buy another before they stop making them, Shopping for the best price before I buy. (I am a coupon shopper) Wish it had a clock for time, but not for brewing. I fresh brew with cold water so that is not an issue. In other words this is about as perfect as it gets for morning coffee. I am not locked into a brand or type of cup or coffee. The brew is perfect every time. WOW!!!

Just What I Wanted Review by

I used to make half a pot of coffee in the morning to get two large mugs. Now I make them fresh and fast, one at a time, and sometimes another one in the early afternoon and either drink it or put in in the refrigerator for an iced coffee later on.

Streamlined look makes a terrific cup of coffee Review by

I don't make a lot of coffee so wanted something that was smaller on my counter and could make a terrific cup of coffee with a minimal environmental impact. This fits the bill perfectly, and looks great giving my kitchen a pop of red.

Great Coffee from a Great Machine Review by

This is my go to for my favorite cup of java in the morning. I grind my own beans every morning and this little personal coffee maker is excellent for taking my coffee to work in the morning. Coffee brews hot and has a great taste. As with most KitchenAid products, the design is aesthetically beautiful and maintains the KitchenAid quality we've come to expect. The one cup brew filled to the max line is a perfect match when I then pour it into my 20oz Hydro Flask and stay warms well through lunch time. Couldn't be happier with yet another KitchenAid product and is the main reason why my kitchen is filled with their products. Reliable quality product with warranty and service you cannot beat in the home appliance industry.

    Coffee Maker Review by

Good coffee maker. I like that I can control the strength of my cup of coffee, and that I don't have to purchase those over-priced coffee pods anymore. My only drawback: I read some reviews that said the coffee brewed in about 3 minutes. My cup seems to take about 6-8 minutes. But it does make good coffee, so I guess I can wait the little extra time.

    Disappointed Review by

The silver model is a 2015 Christmas gift and I have made about 10 cups of coffee through it. I didn't use it again until this morning and it would not even turn on. We travel over the road and I brought it with us in the semi truck and it wouldn't turn on. Very disappointed. I was so looking forward to this in the truck too.

great little coffee. Makes great coffee Review by

I bought this during Christmas and i am the only coffee drinker in my house and i have one serving a day so i was surprised when the brewer stopped working. But the Kitchenmaid customer service is great and they going to ship me out a replacement. It will have the same one year warranty the first one had. Maybe i just got a defective one. Hope this review helps thanks.

    Another one died. Review by

This is either the 3rd or 4th Kitchenaid Personal coffee maker that I have had. The first 2 didn't work at all. Don't remember what happened with the 3rd one, probably worked for a very short time, then stopped. This one worked for a couple of years. I was very diligent about cleaning it; however, last week it started only processing part of the water. I would have to push the start button several times to get the full cup. I cleaned it again and now it doesn't start at all.

Brewed a great cup of coffee until...... Review by

I have been using this coffee maker for 16 months now. It has been a great coffee maker for the most part. Recently I have noticed lately that my coffee started tasting weird. I have been very meticulous about maintaining and cleaning the maker but I have noticed what seems to be mold inside the removable water reservoir. This reservoir is impossible to clean. There is only a small hole to access the inside. Unfortunately I believe I will need to get a different coffee maker.

As Easy to Use as It Is Lovely to Look At Review by

My last KitchenAid Coffee maker lasted for 15 years so I definitely wanted to stick with the KitchenAid brand. And this personal coffee maker is filling the big shoes of the coffee maker that went before it. Shallow as it is to admit it, I'm very interested in a coffeemaker that looks good sitting on the counter -- and this one truly does. And I'm also very interested in a simple-to-use machine -- which this one is. It's worked flawlessly for 6 months of 3-times-daily use. I love it so much that I bought another one to have as a backup in case KitchenAid discontinues this model (please dont).

    It's Ok Review by

I have had this for a few weeks. I read a lot of reviews before purchasing. First, the pros. I like the mug, and honestly, do not thinking it needs to be warmed up to keep the coffee hot as others have said, mine it plenty hot. It holds a pretty good sized cup of coffee, and for me, I'm usually good after one full mug. Doesn't take up a lot of space and it does look nice, and I like that there is no hot plate to bake coffee drippings on and you can take out and clean the try. Now, the cons. The micro filter lets coffee grinds through. I use Maxwell house which is medium grind. The end of the cup always has grinds and I can't stand that, so the screen really only works for course. I do think it's a little over priced. It doesn't seem to be made that well, looks like metal but is all plastic, and the while the water tank looks nice, it's tough to see where the water level is.

    Disappointed Review by

I bought this based on Kitchen Aid 's reputation and unfortunately this model has not lived up to it. I've had it for about 2 years and used it for brewing tea as well. I loved it initially but stopped using it. The hot water it brewed for my teas smelled and tasted foul even though I descaled it with vinegar and water repeatedly.I could smell it from the steam vent as well after the descaling process. There was always water left in the internal reservoir after it was done brewing. I would have to turn the entire unit upside down and shake the water out. I worried that mold had developed since the odor was foul and descaling didn't help. As other reviewers noted, the thermal mug doesn't keep the beverage hot for long and it's not designed for someone with small hands. It needs a handle. I really loved this coffee maker initially but couldn't live with the odor and taste.

Good single cup option Review by

I've had this for almost 4 months now. It does a fine job though I've read other reviews stating that the basket swing out gets warped-this hasn't happened to me (yet?) My only complaints are that 1. The bottom drip tray isn't removalbe so I cannot use my Yeti tumbler with it. 2. The coffee ground basket mesh is not quite as fine as I'd hoped. I had to go buy (AND TRIM DOWN each small coffee filter). Yes it is a pain but I'm in love with the Kitchenaid brand! And it just works for me since I refuse to buy the new Keurig that can sense off brand k cups.

After our Keurig broke, we decided on something more environmentally friendly. This coffee maker is absolutely fantastic. Well I am very disappointed as I purchased this single serve and trusted the Kitchen Aid name, big mistake. It is very easy to use but the coffee taste awful, bitter kind of like stainless steel. I have tried everything, from the water, to the coffee I am using, to the mug. It has not helped one bit. Am not happy one bit, expected much better from Kitchen Aid.

    Handy Review by

I bought this about one and half months ago, I like it as no one else drinks coffee and I have the personal mug. The one thing I would change on it is to make the water holder clear so one could see the level. Its hard to read. One major change is to have the coffee filter swing right instead of left. Most people are right handers or make both.

This is exactly what I was looking for. I love my coffee but don't need to make a 'pot' each morning and this makes just the right amount. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that if you don't put the mug in 'just so' it can be difficult to place or remove BUT that being said it makes GREAT coffee :-)

I used to have a single serve coffee machine that used discs and K cups but those do not compare to this. The coffee from this KA unit is nice and hot when it is brewed and stays hot in the awesome travel mug for hours (if you keep the lid closed). Very convenient but certainly does not cut down on quality. I bought my picky BF one too and he cannot stop thanking me for it.

    good coffee Review by

received this coffemaker as a gift Christmas, 2014. Has worked great until recently when the on button seems to be stuck, and sometimes turns on all by itself. Solution is to keep machine unplugged when it's not being used, plug it back in every morning. Having read others' reviews, I am worried that something else is going to go wrong with this. Other than the on button problem, am happy with the product. Glad it doesn't have a warmer for the coffee, no burnt coffee taste.

    Replaced my Bonavita! Review by

A few months ago I bought a Bonavita 5 cup as the brewing temperature is almost 200 degrees but the plastic lip on the stainless steel carafe does not allow all of the coffee to be poured. The high brewing temp is nice for fancy coffees but for ordinary supermarket coffee; Maxwell House, etc, it really doesn't matter. This machine brews at a slightly less temp and is perfectly fine. The pour from the 18 ounce thermal cup allows a full pour with no waste. My Bonavita will go into the closet, using the Kitchenaid for everyday. I'm very happy with my purchase.

    Good coffee maker Review by

I have had this coffee maker for about 2 weeks and I am very happy with my purchase. The coffee maker looks good on the counter and makes a very good cup of coffee. I like to make a stronger cup of coffee than some people and when you have the ability to add a little more coffee to the filter you can make it to your liking. I would never have a Kuerig because you are limited to the amount they put in those k-cups. If you want a good looking coffee maker that makes a great cup of coffee than this is for you.

I have had it about a month and I am satisfied with it. The comments about difficulty reading water level are valid. I use a plastic bottle marked with a Sharpie to measure the amount of water I want. I have had no troubles with the metal filter basket included. I bought paper filters based on reviews I read prior to purchase but have stopped using them. The chime that signals the end of brewing cycle is next to inaudible, but I like that the machine automatically shuts itself off.
