Onyx Black Siphon Coffee Brewer - by KitchenAid

Enjoy the rich, velvety texture of a professional brew with KitchenAid's Siphon Coffee Brewer! Siphon coffee brewing, also known as “vacuum” coffee brewing, uses vapor pressure to push hot water from the carafe into an upper brewing chamber. Freshly brewed coffee then pours back down into the carafe when brewing is complete.

Siphon coffee brewing fully and evenly saturates the coffee grounds with hot water, bringing out the bright, intense flavors from your favorite ground coffee. The coffee’s aroma stays trapped inside the coffee brewer rather than escaping into the air, resulting in clean, crisp, and vibrant tasting coffee that drip coffee brewers can’t produce.

The KitchenAid Siphon Coffee Brewer features full, automated immersion brewing through precise temperature and vacuum technology. This simple construction brews each cup of coffee with rich flavors and a clean finish. KitchenAid's Siphon Coffee Brewer is ideal for extracting the best of your favorite coffee grounds!

    KCM0812OB Includes:

    Makes Great Coffee Review by

Excellent Siphon design. Great looks and makes a clean cup of coffee. Only real complaint is it's a pain to clean. Coffee grinds are not easy to remove and the lip on the carafe causes water to be retained unless completed inverted. Still an lovely siphon that's strong and reliable. Simple to use.

Decent machine but there are reservations Review by

Having used nearly all coffee makers in an effort to get the best strong brew, and not wanting to have to store butane for my manual syphon, I bought this machine. It has one glaring deficiency. You cannot control the immersion time on this machine to get a really rich cup. With Syphons this is paramount. I have seen a few workarounds that others have tried, but it would be a simple matter to engineer a timer in to the machine. The only alternative is to use more coffee and it is very wasteful if you buy premium coffees from a roaster. For my morning mug I have to use 32 grams, although it does help if you stir the coffee as it enters the upper chamber. So Kitchen Aid, how bout it? Give us some control of the brew, because you have made a decent start. Also you really have to have a really good helical grinder to make the best brew.

Makes coffee just as I remembered Review by

When I was in graduate school, in the late 1960's, my professor introduced us to the wonders of making coffee in a Silex vacuum coffee maker. It was the best coffee I ever had. Fast forward to 2016 and the Kitchenaid siphon coffee maker. My son gave me this coffee maker for Christmas after hearing, for years, my raving about the coffee I had from the Silex maker. I can tell you, I was not disappointed. Not only did this coffee maker bring back fond memories but aslo madeone helluva cup of coffee. If you love coffee made from freshly ground beans, this is the machine for you. It's easy to use, easy to clean and produces perfect results.

Sleek update to vintage coffee pot Review by

This coffee brewer is beautiful. Even if I did't use it to brew coffee I would leave it out on the counter. It is like stove top pots used in the 50's and early 60's - you had to be an engineer to set them off the heat at just the right time. However, Kitchenaid has solved that problem; you just flip a switch and wait. I use the metal filter which is very easy to use. As for clean up it does take a few minutes because the grounds are swirled in the upper globe; they are easily dumped out and then pot and filter washed. The lower pot is harder because of its shape but it only takes a few shakes to get the rinse water out. I wash the loser pot with some white vinegar water to help keep the heating element clean. Coffee is strong and wonderful;.

GREAT cup of coffee Review by

Have been brewing coffee via the vacuum process for years. I have several Silex and Cory brewers and a Sunbeam Coffeemaster electric vacuum coffee maker that my parents used in the 1950s. Happy to see that Kitchen Aid has made the process simpler and love the magnetic seal rather than the former rubber seal that was the norm on the old vacuum pots. Wish that the entire bottom unit could be immersed in water for cleaning, but when cleaning the bottom unit, adding some bicarbonate of soda and water and let the unit stand for an hour or two will keep the unit fresh and eliminate stale coffee odor and taste. Great coffee brewer, well worth the money

Making coffee the right way Review by

I enjoy this style of brewing as it produces a very favorable coffee. The issue I have with this product is it does not have a mode to keep the coffee hot after brewing. If making a full pot, you need to transfer the coffee to a thermos if you don't serve it all within a short time

    Great coffee Review by

Takes a few tries to nail down. Seems to be sensitive to how fine your coffee grounds are to get the exact kind of coffee you prefer. Of course how much coffee is placed in to the top carafe. Once you have it figured out you'll get a consistent perfect cup.

    Great coffee maker! Review by

This is a wonderful coffee maker. It's super easy to use and really easy to clean. It heats the water very quickly (less than 60 seconds) the whole brewing process I would say is as long as a standard drip coffee maker. It makes REALLY good coffee; very good flavor and Extremely smooth. It's really fun to watch as well, very cool process.

Best Coffee Maker Ever!!!!! Review by

This is the best coffee maker ever! My husband purchased this for me last Christmas with my Proline Hand Blender and I love them both!!! It sure is a conversation piece but most of all, I don't have that bitter coffee taste that you get from the coffee sitting on a burner or being made at too high of a temperature! I would highly recommend this (and I do, believe me!) to everyone that loves coffee. I love flavored coffees and this is better than bee's knees! The clean-up afterward is pretty easy as well. Love, love, love it!!!!

    Exceeded my expectations Review by

I have heard about vacuum brewing (siphon brewing), but have never tried it. I usually drink my coffee through a french press, but wanted something that would be able to brew more coffee at once, rather than just a couple of cups with the french press. I was also looking for something that would brew a little quicker than waiting for a kettle of water to heat up. This blew my mind the first time I used it. It was so simple, quick and even fun to watch it in action. I was a little skeptical of the price that I was paying, but after using it for a couple of weeks the price was well worth the product. The Coffee is strong and tastes great, it shuts down before the brewing process is done so it will never burn the coffee - I hate burnt, bad tasting coffee!!! I would recommend this product to anyone that is serious about their brew and enjoys a fine cup of coffee as this coffee brewer delivers.

The way to treat your coffee beans in style. Review by

Note: it IS a siphon/vacuum brewer. Coffee is siphoned up and air pressure causes a vaccuum.... anyway this method does produce the best coffee. this unit is well constructed and looks to be really sturdy. the price you pay is the cleanup. it is more involved than most other products so this may be a deal breaker for some. For most, a small price to pay for great coffee. I would have also prefered that the carafe would have a keep warm feature.

    Love it! Review by

At first we were skeptic about this contraption, but it really does brew a great cup of coffee. Ideal if you have two coffee drinkers in the house. My husband brews the coffee every day before I head out the door for work. I take one large mug with me on my daily commute. He drinks the rest. What I like is that the unit is taken entirely apart and can be hand washed. It doesn't build up any foul aftersmells or the build up of coffee residue like other traditional brewers. It is easy to clean and assemble. You need to purchase a strong roast to fully benefit from the inversion effect.

Adding this coffee maker to our collection now brings us to 6 different coffee makers. By far - this brewer makes the best tasting coffee we have. It is a beautiful product which creates rich, smooth coffee. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is cleanability. it is not the easiest product in the world to clean.

Makes the best pot of coffee!! Review by

We like a Hot smooth strong cup of coffee. After trying numerous peculators and french press makers we tried this Siphon Coffee Brewer and fell in love with the coffee it made. The coffee comes out hot and with a smooth full body. You have never tasted coffee with so much flavor but it is not bitter or burnt tasting. We love it. If you want to re-heat the coffee just depress the switch for 30 seconds and then lift it up to stop the heating process.

Amazing machine. NOT A SIPHON!!!! Review by

They did a marvelous job with this VACUUM BREWER!!! Using the cloth filters is a must. I get a better product when I mix the coffee with the water as it fills the upper chamber. The agitation provided by the bubbling action is not sufficient and the coffee seems under extracted. Tweak the grind and coffee amounts to accommodate your tastes. The machine is convenient to use. I love it! Personal Rant: There is no siphon action used in the brewing process. it is physically impossible. This process is called vacuum brewing. It is terribly irksome to me that they call this a siphon.

    The Bomb! Review by

This is my third vacuum brewer. It is the best way to prepare coffee. I do have a few hacks that make it even better. Once the water has entered the upper chamber, I give it a stir. This gets the coffee that is floating on top of the water (and not being extracted) wet. When the switch flips off and the vacuum begins to pull the coffee into the lower chamber, I flip the switch again and run it for another cycle (you need to wait a minute or two before it'll let you turn it back on). After the second brew cycle, I give it a little stir just before the coffee is sucked back into the lower chamber. The result is so good you will never drink anything else ever again.

    Best Coffee Ever! Review by

I recently purchased this excellent Siphon coffee brewer. I have been a fan of siphon/vacuum coffee for quite some time now. I still have, and use my Sunbeam Coffeemaster C-30 vacuum coffee maker. It was quite a surprise when I saw this new model by KitchenAid on the market. Its been more than 40 years since a major appliance brand has produced and sold a siphon/vacuum coffee brewer in the USA. This brewer by KitchenAid is a very well made product, will last many years. It is a faster brewer than those of years ago, and the flavor of the coffee is very bold, robust, but not bitter. Fun to watch the brewing process too. Cleanup is a little more time consuming than that of a drip maker, but well worth the effort when you taste the wonderful coffee it produces. Go out and buy one, you'll be glad you did.

Looks great POOR performance Review by

I bought this coffee pot as a finishing touch to my brand new kitchen (I had waited for 5 years). It had the old fashioned methodology with a new, modern look... just like my kitchen. I've really tried to love this coffee pot, really, but I can't. First, there is no coffee aroma that as a coffee lover, I so look forward to in the morning!!! The coffee filter cloth that comes with it doesn't work, nor do the other variations I've purchased. Each and every cup is loaded with black soot/grains at the bottom. I've adjusted amount of coffee and ground textures for the last 6 months! Clean up is a mess, but I'd easily go through the trouble if the coffee was worth it. The look on the counter after I've brewed a cup is also messy, coffee grains remain within the globe... and when I'm so excited to taste that first sip of hot coffee, the last thing I want is to clean the globe! The lack of buzzer (since aroma is absent) leaves me to find a cold brew... unless of course, I stand there and wait for it... not functional.

Nice design, easy to use to extract greater flavors from you Review by

So far so good. I tend not to look for perfection in new technology devices. Nor am I a coffee aficionado. Overall a sound product built for a general consumer for quick repetitive use. If you're a automatic drip coffee drinker looking for an option to get a little more flavor or boldness out of your coffee this siphon is for you. If your style is a French press tinkerer with stringent recipes (water temp/time) you will be disappointed. Like all Kitchenaid appliances it is rugged and foolproof to setup and use. And a little more time will be needed to determine the reliability and value. It tends to be a totally new experience in making coffee. Fun to watch the brewing cycle. It automatically manages many of the steps of a French press, heating the water, stirring pressing, timing and so on...... Clean up tends to be a little awkward at first until you establish a groove. I suspect this will be the biggest complaint Nice design, easy to use to extract greater flavors from your coffee. I've use a French press and I'm use to managing the wet coffee grounds clean up. I find the Kitchenaid Siphon easier to clean. I highly recommend acquiring a couple drain screens such as a Daco 4 ½ inch kitchen mesh screen, drain screen, allowing you to rinse the grounds through the siphon tube into the screen(s). Then discard the grounds into trash or container, I use a large soft drink cup and place the screen and grounds to sit on top and drain. Takes me less than a couple minutes to clean up the siphon with the screens and a long handle kitchen brush to scrub the insides. A little Bar Keeper Friend once in a while cleans up the inside of the brewer removing buildup. Over all I'm happy with the Coffee Siphon. My wish list would be, add an option to adjust the time the Siphon is agitation the Coffee at the end of the brewing cycle. I would prefer a little more time. As well I would like to see a warming cycle on the design, easy to use to extract greater flavors from your coffee coffee pot after the brewing is complete. For me it is a keeper. A great option to add to your brewing collection.

Siphon Coffee Brewer by Kitchen Aid Review by

This makes the best coffee. The only thing that is a problem is that if you don't use the cloth filter, the grounds go back into your brewed coffee. Kitchen Aid provides 3 cloth filters. I tried to purchase more. The representatives from Kitchen Aid said that this option is not available. I will have to refrain from using this coffee maker when my cloth filters are no longer keeping my grounds out. I have spoken with Kitchen Aid representatives and they do not sell this item separately. This has been a disappointment.

Enjoying it every morning Review by

I bought this brewer after seeing a good review of it in Consumer Report Magazine. Though pricier than I would normally spend, I thought what the heck, it's going to make a fun Christmas gift to open and watch brew! My family thinks I lost my mind but I love it and don't mind the extra clean up. I agree with others that there is no warming unit is disappointing but we usually drink it fast enough to make it not a big deal or, heaven forbid, we have to nuc the mug in the microwave for 15 seconds! Tips using it, when turning the filter to lock in place you will hear a click knowing it's truly locked in place. Also I find medium ground as the manual suggest takes too much coffee to get a nice rich flavor. I now buy whole bean and have it ground to fine espresso and works much better with less coffee. And of course being a Kitchen Aid product, the craftsman quality is very apparent!

Most interesting Coffee Maker I own. Review by

I have been using this coffee maker for about a month now and it does make great coffee. I am using the cloth filters that came with. Once you get them tied and shrunk they work very well. I only tie the top permenantly so it will just slide over the handle. The bottom strings are pulled tight, nothing more and I install the filter housing. Once you figure out the correct grind and amount of coffee, your set. Cleaning up the coffee grounds is the only negative. That takes more time then dropping a used filter in the trash. I wash out the cloth filter, hang it up, let it dry. I have 3 cloth filters so I put a dry one back in and its ready for the next brew. I have two other coffee makers, a french press and a Techni Vorm Maccmaster. All three make excellent coffee and one is my favorite. The Siphon Brewer is the most fun to watch and a favorite on the weekends or when company drops in. The TechniVorm is the favorite for every morning coffee before work. The French press is a favorite for two cups of perfect tasting coffee. Good luck. I only use DunnBrothers fresh roasted coffee beans and I grind only what is going to be used.

    Siphon brewer Review by

It's okay.. If your looking to replace bodum santos Brewer, this will not. Doesn't boil the coffee long enough on top to extract flavor. It makes a fair cup of coffee. The idea was good, but not there yet. I'm disappointed. If your not pickey on flavor/hot coffee this is your Brewer. I'll keep waiting for a good electric vaccum Brewer

an excellent morning experience Review by

This was a gift that keeps on giving. The function is so interesting to watch and the coffee is very smooth. This replaced a traditional automatic drip pot which made somewhat acidic coffee even with frequent cleaning. The filters can be a bit annoying (slipping) and the fact that the base unit does not keep the coffee warm is a negative, but if you pour it into a thermo carafe, you can enjoy the coffee all morning. This feature would make it near perfect.

    Great Coffee Review by

This is more a question than a review. I just made my second pot of coffee - the water was pulled up and then down throug the the filter two times before it turned off - is it supposed to happen that way? Regardless, the coffee tasted great.

    Great Coffee Maker Review by

We purchased the brewer to replace a conventional drip coffee machine. We have been using only Kona coffee for the last 12 years and had high expectations for the brewer. Our expectations have been met for the quality of the brewed coffee. The brewed coffee is much smoother than the coffee from the drip machine. Cleaning the brewer is a bit more work than simply throwing away a used drip filter but, it is worth it. We will not be going back to conventional drip machines any time soon.

    Retro Coffee Maker Review by

Reinvention of the old vacuum siphon coffee makers used by restaurants and diners back in the day. Great update of a classic, the brewing process is entertaining to watch, makes great American coffee. Minor issues: doesn't keep brewed coffee hot; brew unit a little tricky to clean; small piece of plastic from carafe handle fell off (carafe being replaced by manufacturer under no-hassle warranty). Verdict: a little quirky to use, but I'm enjoying the coffee.

KitchenAid siphon coffee pot Review by

This coffee pot makes the best coffee that I have ever had from a home coffee pot. It might be better than from a coffee shop.

I need the filters too Review by

Awesome brewer. This baby makes a great cup of coffee with much less acid taste than any other coffee maker I have used. Kitchen aid only gives you 3 of the special filters. I know they are reusable but at some point I'll need more. Where can we get them ???

    Brings back memories Review by

I remember my parents had a Sunbeam that worked this way in the mid 50's. Very pleased with the taste of the coffee, but comparing it to the 50's model, the cloth filter clipped between two mesh filters, it was easy to remove, clean and use again and didn't have to be tied on and untied to remove to clean. The filter also extended down and hooked to the bottom of the syphon and was very secure. I've had a few times when the pressure of the water flowing up into the upper pot blew the filter out, even with making sure that the filter was securely in place. What a mess! Also, in this day in time, there should be a hold warm feature.

    Great Coffee!! Review by

I love the coffee made by this machine. I would say they need to make the base a warmer as well. The opening of the coffee pot is a bit small and makes it hard to clean. Those are two big things for me, the machine would be perfect otherwise.

    Automated Artisanal Coffee Review by

Kitchenaid's siphon brewer produces faultlessly clean tasting, richly flavored coffee every time. The instructions seemed complex at first, but are not much more difficult to execute than those for an electric drip that requires frequent vinegar cleaning to achieve a far less tasty brew. Watching the pot work it's magic is a welcome morning show.

    Great coffee machine Review by

We bought this a few weeks ago and it met all of or expectation. Vaccum pots can make the best coffee - this one does an exceptional job: far better coffee than other brew methods. This one is also easy to use and clean. I highly recommend to to anyone interested in a great cup of coffee!

Where do I get replacement filter assemblies? Review by

This is a very nice electric powered coffee syphon. Only one problem. Kitchen Aid does not sell extra filter assemblies. A syphon uses a cloth over wire or nylon filter. It absorbs the flavor of the coffee. If your wife likes Texas Pecan, and you like unflavored coffee, you are scr*w*d. If you wife makes coffee in your syphon, you are stuck with a filter assembly that tastes like Pecans.

    Great, Fun Craft-Coffee-Maker Review by

Not only is this machine a beauty to look at, it makes a really great cup of coffee. I started buying premium roasts and even hand grinding the beans, and measuring out the exact amount of coffee to make the perfect brew! I feel like a real Barista! My friends and family really get a kick out of the whole process. Of course you really do not have to anything complicated to use the brewer. I also used it with already ground and the included measurer to make a fine pot as well, but its more fun going through the whole process.
