      • A:  The Kitchen Aid Slow Cooker KSC6223 is made in China.
      • Q:  Can I brown chicken & onions with a little olive oil before adding liquid?

Can't think of what I'd do without it! Review by

This slow cooker, my first, works great. I'm new to slow cooking and can't believe how easy and care-free it is! No more standing over ahot stove making sure things are mixing well and nothing is burning! Just toss everything into the Kitchen Aid slow cooker, set the timer, and come back when the timer is done! Everything cooks up well; no overly done spots or cool spots. The only drawback I've noticed is that sometimes there's a chemically smell coming from the appliance when it's cooking, but that doesn't seem to get into the food at all; it's just a little distracting.

Manual is not helpful but crock pot DID work well Review by

This crock pot worked great. Decent temp control, etc...until I plugged it in and found a E1 error. When I downloaded the manual to see what the issue was, I found nothing in the troubleshooting section. An internet search also wasn't helpful in telling me what it was. If you are going to have a code then tell people what the code is and what to do if they get it. I tried plugging it in to different outlets, holding in various buttons for a prolonged period of time with no luck. Frustrating...

    Love this cooker Review by

I've only used it twice so far but the results were spectacular....nothing overcooked or burned. My last cooker was never low enough and boiled everything. Make sure to read the guide. Cook on medium unless you have to leave for 8 to 10 hours and then low is what you want.

So easy to use! Review by

I love my slow cooker -- it's changed the way my boyfriend and I eat! Finally I'm able to make delicious, nutritious meals during the week despite working long hours! It's so easy to use and easy to clean! Why didn't I get this years ago? (Oh wait, because it takes up a fair bit of space... which I haven't had in NYC until recently!)

    Disapointed Review by

First time with a slow cooker. It came highly recommended on Cook's Country. After using it about a dozen times, I am disappointed with the results. Maybe it's me. I get recipes on line and follow them to the letter and whatever I cook, ends up undercooked.

    6quart crockpot Review by

I love my crockpot! It cooks evenly and has the perfect range of choices for cooking - timer, power settings and the warming setting. Unfortunately my first one didn't work but a phone call to customer service resolved my problem quickly and efficiently! A new one was delivered and I returned the original to kitchen aid in the box. Because their customer service was so excellent I will only buy Kitchenaid!

I like my new Kitchen Aid slow cooker. The controls are intuitive and easy to use, and the cord stores nicely underneath. I've never before seen a slow cooker with a Medium heat setting, and wish there were better instructions on when to use it, and how the convert recipes that only list High or Low.

    pot not replaceable Review by

The unit itself is very well made and works very well. here is the issue with buying this product. keep this in mind before purchasing. I purchased the KSC6222 and the ceramic pot somehow developed a crack. At this point the entire unit is not usable without a new pot and it is impossible to purchase a new pot as they have been out of stock for quite some time. Will most likely have to buy a whole new unit (not another kitchen Aid) for what should be an easily replaceable part.

    slow cooker Review by

I have used the new cooker twice, so I'm not experienced enough yet to give it much a a review. I like the looks of it and the ease of the settings. I do not know if I'm confident that it is cooking or staying warm at a high enough temperature. The first time I used it seemed like the ingredients were not cooked enough. Last time we set it on warm as were not ready to serve yet and that temp seemed not quite warm enough. It is also quite heavy.

This Slow Cooker is Wonderful Review by

I needed a new slow cooker and when my Cooks Illustrated came and it was recommended- well, why not? I bought one. I have made everything in it. What I love is there is a low (which is really a low), medium and high heat. Switches over to warm at the end of cooking. Easy to read - just easy. Love it !! Thanks Kitchenaid. It seems like all your kitchen appliances are perfect!

    excellent slow cooker Review by

This slow cooker works like the old ones did - that is, it cooks at the proper sub-boiling temperature, unlike most of the the newer ones. I have nothing but praise for this product...except for one minor issue, which I don't know whether to address to Kitchenaid, or some other company. Sometimes I like to use slow cooker liners to facilitate cleanup, as was recommended by Cook's Illustrated. Reynolds is probably the most widely known brand, although I have tried others too. None of them fits completely into this Kitchenaid slow cooker's insert, although I have never had problems fitting the liners into any of the other slow cookers that I own. These include a couple of fairly new Rival Crock Pots of different sizes, and a thirty - some year old Hamilton Beach. This is a minor complaint though - the Kitchenaid is now my go to slow cooker.

    Finally......an nonburnt meal!!! Review by

I had many different slow cookers over the years and each had its own pros and cons...but there was one common theme among them all. BURNT meals!! I was delegated to only using them during the weekend where they can be babysat...which defeats the whole purpose of these appliances. I was thrilled to see this unit resulted in crisp free meals, even after 10 hours!. Love the set and forget feature where it turns to 'keep warm' when i want it to.

So glad I switched. Review by

The too-hot slow cooker with the rattling lid because the contents are boiling was getting really old, so I read a review of slow cookers in Cook's Illustrated magazine. The KitchenAid was rated at the top of the list. The temperature settings are rock solid, there is no boiling instead just very steady slow application of heat which is the base requirement for a slow cooker, but you'd be surprised how many can't maintain a steady temperature. The bowl is super thick and heavy so distribution of heat is efficient. Love the easy to use controls, I haven't used the timer yet, but have used the cooker about 5 times since I got it and absolutely love it. Nothing bad to say about this remarkable appliance.

This is the 4th slow cooker I've bought in the last year. All of the others boiled the food around the outside. This in my opinion is not the point of a slow cooker. I've used it 6 times since I purchased it and am completely satisfied.

    Excellent performer Review by

This slow cooker is actually a replacement for the same model Kitchenaid that I'd bought a few weeks ago, and had some minor problems with. First, I must complement Kitchenaid for its extraordinary customer service - from the time I posted my initial review to the time I got this replacement was only a matter of a week or ten days. Next, this replacement unit is now by far my favorite slow cooker. I also have two older Rival Crock Pots of different sizes, and an ancient Hamilton Beach unit, which was my wife's before we were married. All of these still perform well, but the new Kitchenaid beats them hands down, mainly because of the high, medium, low temperature options, and the fact that none of these goes beyond the boiling point, as per a recent Cook's Illustrated review. In short, this is the way all slow cookers should be...and the way all customer service should be.

    Top Notch! Review by

I am a bit of an appliance and gadget nerd and did a lot of research before selecting the KitchenAid slow cooker. I have been happy with the easy to set controls, clear display, and the cord wrap on the bottom is so smart! I've made chili, ribs, and pot roast so far. I've cooked as short as 6 and as long as 12 hours with great results. The keep warm feature with count up is perfect. Clean up has been super easy!

America's Test Kitchen was right! Great cooker! Review by

We choose this slow cooker based on the review from ATK (might have been on cook's country show) It performs perfectly, is easy to use and clean. The only possible criticism I could think of is it would be nice to have a gasket on the lid, and a bracket to hold the lid when it's not in use.

    Wonderful Slow Cooker! Review by

Now that I have used this slow cooker several times I'm more and more impressed by the capabilities. Truly a great way to slow cook with a timer and once the food is finished it turns to warm. Keeps the food warm and no worry about it cooking too long. Great roasts meals and other dishes.

    Excellent Upgrade!! Review by

Hubby bought me the Kitchen Aid 6qt slow cooker as an upgrade from a 20+ year smaller crock pot. And what a difference it has made in our household! Bigger quart and I do prefer the oval size rather than round. Love the ease of settings, even cooking and flipping to warm once done. A sure winner on our house and we use it so much it just sits on our counter, no need to put away because we use it so much! 5 stars galore...! ;o)

Per the intensive testing that America's Test Kitchen has done and subsequently called this out as the BEST SLOW cooker, I agree that it cooks evenly and thoroughly and is VERY easy to use! Its simplicity adds to the ease of setting the timing and glass top is great for viewing the food while cooking!!!

The Best Slow Cooker Ever! Review by

My old slow cooker had a short in the control; time for a replacement! I liked all the positives about this slow cooker so I ordered it! I have been so pleased with the performance of this slow cooker. I like the blue lit numerals, the way the cooker changes to warm after cooking the set time. I can even set the time at 30 minute intervals. Cleanup is so easy and the cord wraps up on the bottom.

dependable and convenient cooking Review by

After doing some research I decided to purchase the KitchenAid slow cooker. I have used it a few times and am glad I got it. Perfect size for a family of 5 or 6 (plus a couple of friends over for dinner). There are many recipes for slow cooking and we've enjoyed several delicious meals already. It's easy to set the timer and start cooking. Go about your day and know that they'll be a hot meal ready when you return. It's very easy to clean afterwards. The ceramic pot can be heavy when loaded with food, but the pot and the entire cooker is made of quality materials. We're very pleased with our new slow cooker.

    Great Upgrade! Review by

We've been using a different slow cooker for several years (crock pot). Although the controls indicated three temperatures, it really had only one, TOO HOT! And it had no time setting, so if you were running late it would just keep over-cooking your dish. After researching other brands, we were glad to find a review of slow cookers in Cooks Illustrated, who selected this Kitchenaid model as their top pick. We couldn't agree more. Our first batch of carnitas was perfect! The Kitchenaid temperature settings are accurate and the timer allows accurate timed cooking before switching to a stay warm setting. We'll be using this new Kitchenaid often (our old one just sat on a shelf)!

America's Test Kitchen #1 Review by

I love my slow cookers and own five in different sizes, two round and three oval. This is a great one. The new Jan-Feb issue of Cook's Illustrated also reviewed it and has a diagram which shows its special features: the wrap-around heating element, the two layers of insulation, and, most important to me, the temperature sensor that automatically adjusts cooking temperature to prevent boiling, a common problem with newer ovals. It also doesn't run as hot as most oval cookers which is a big plus. The control panel is intuitive and easy to use. It has a keep-warm setting in addition to high, medium and low; you can also easily bypass a time setting if you wish. I love it and plan to give away my Crock-Pot Smart Cooker which I've never liked.

Best Slow Cooker Ever Review by

I have owned several slow cookers but this one is the best. My first slow cooker was either on or off. The KitchenAid slow cooker has a timer and several heat settings. Much better control for cooking a meal. The crock liner has a minimum and maximum fill line. So no mistakes.

Spot on even cooking. Review by

This is the easiest to set and use slow cooker I've ever used. Spot on even cooking. The only slight minus is that the crock is quite heavy. If you don't have a dishwasher or don't use yours, as I do to save water, it's a bear to clean in a sink.

Defective Lid or Pot---or poorly made Review by

I was excited to use my new slow cooker as I had the previous KitchenAid model. Unfortunately, the lid does not fit the insert and there is a gap where air travels in and out. The old model had a rubber ring around the perimeter to provide a seal where this model does not have that feature. Very disappointed! It is either a defective lid or insert or poor design.

    Great slow cooker Review by

After reading reviews in the Cooks Magazine November issue, I ordered this slow cooker to replace mine which was obtained a little over 40 years ago and no longer worked well. Since receiving this slow cooker 3 weeks ago, I have used it at least 4 times a week and absolutely love it. Old machine did not have timer, display or any other features such as keeping food warm for a good amount of time once the cooking time was done. This machine works great and, I feel, was a very good investment.

    cooking temperature? Review by

I purchased this unit on the basis of a recent Cook's Illustrated review to replace a five year old Rival Crock Pot. Although I am aware of the differences in cooking temperatures between the older and newer slow cookers (I also have a thirty-plus year old Hamilton Beach slow cooker), I am somewhat confused as to the recommended cooking times and temperatures. My oldest slow cooker (the Hamilton Beach) is spot on rregarding cooking times and temperatures, andmy newer Rival Crock Pot seems to cook at a much higher temperature, resulting in over-cooked foods regardless of the temperature setting. However, the two times I've used the new Kitchenaid appliance thus far resulted in one instance of a very overcooked roast on low, and another instance of the same type of roast (beef chuck) under-cooked on high, each following the recommended times for the recipe. Unless I'm missing something, there is either a defect in the appliance or I'm somehow way behind the learning curve. In either case, this may not be the best choice for a slow cooker.

    WORST SLOW COOKER Review by

I just bought this slow cooker on the recommendation of America's Test Kitchen... big MISTAKE. After NINE HOURS my beef stew is not done. Even the carrots and potatoes are hard as a rock!! First Slow Cooker Purchase Review by

We purchased this one because it came recommended from Cook's Illustrated Slow Cooker Revolution Cook Book. Used it once and so far so good. It cleaned up easy and I think the lid is made of plastic which is great because I would likely break an actual glass one. The one unexpected feature was the bracket on the bottom to store the power cord when not in use. Great idea!

Works great; a little fragile Review by

I received this a gift in 2015, based on the recommendation of Cook's Illustrated. It holds a lot of food, and I appreciate the very long timer and the fact that, despite being a slow cooker, it heats pretty quickly! That means I can toss prepared ingredients in right from the fridge in the morning, let it sit on high until they warm up, then reset back to the recipe temperature before I head to work. The only negative is that the pot itself is long and thin, rather than fat and round, so it did not fit in my sink. As a result, the upper right corner broke into several pieces as I was moving it around while washing it. That's a bummer--it was a real kitchen workhorse.
