Masontops wanted to turn mason jars into easy fermentation vessels, but they knew the process needed to be simplified. They designed pickle pipes, pickle pebbles, and pickle packers to make fermenting in a mason jar accessible to everyone!
Founded by childhood friends Phil Baron and Mike Bacher, Masontops shared an appreciation of Mason jars. They were so inspired by the utility and allure of its vintage charm, they decided to create a company to help mason jars be more accessible to the people. While on the journey of fermenting sauerkraut, they realized they needed to simplify the process.
"We fell in love with the idea of fermenting in Mason jars: they were the perfect size for storing, easy to clean, and even easier to find. Some will say it was entrepreneurial spirit, others say it was the sauerkraut, either way, our creative juices started flowing and along came Masontops, Inc."
First, they designed Pickle Pebble food weights that were better suited for Mason jars in size and weight to get the job done right. Secondly, they designed a beautiful all natural acacia wood Pick Packer that serves as a tamper and muddler, perfectly fitting both wide mouth and regular mouth mason jars. This all leads up to the creation of the Pickle Pipe which was launched on Kickstarter. Enough people believed in the product that Masontops was able to create the Pickle Pipe and make fermenting easier to use, easier to store, and easier to clean. With the help of their Pickle Pipe, Pickle Pebble, and Pickle Packer, fermenting in a mason jar is easy no matter the experience level!
