Our Overall Pick: All American 1930 Ultimate Griddle

All American 1930 Ultimate Griddle | Elote

What We Liked:

  • Inexpensive: At only $89 the Ultimate Griddle can outperform luxury brands that cost triple the price
  • Feels Quality: Made in USA from THICK Heavy-duty aluminum and offers more space than luxury brands
  • Great Cooking Performance: Thick aluminum offers great heat distribution even across multiple burners
  • Slippery Nonstick: The PFOA-free coating is much more non-stick than enameled cast iron models that are prone to sticking
  • 6 Color Options: 6 color options to choose from as well as side-by-side griddle/grill models

What We Wish Was Better:

  • Design Opportunity: The side walls could be higher to help with flipping food more easily
  • Nonstick Care: Make sure to follow use and care instructions to keep the griddle in good shape

At a fraction of the cost (and weight!), the All American 1930 Ultimate Griddle lives up to its name. Made in the USA, the All American 1930 company set out to deliver a product that has been missing from the market - a double burner griddle that is built to last and doesn't cost a small fortune. At $89.99 MSRP, it is only slightly more than the "lower-end" griddles (made with thinner aluminum and made in China) and astoundingly less than its cast iron competition (costing upwards of $285!).
Also when looking at the competition, the AA 1930 offers more space than the cast-iron griddles (19.5" x 11" x1") and still weighs less!

Weighing only 7 lbs, the Ultimate Griddle has some heft to it, but it isn't overly heavy like its cast iron-based counterparts that weigh on average 10 lbs. The Ultimate Griddle feels sturdy too - the Heavy-duty aluminum is thick, making it great at even heat distribution and strong enough to stand up to making smash patties without worry. You'll also find walls on the side of the griddle and grease gutter around the perimeter to keep grease from spilling onto your stovetop.

The non-stick coating is a real draw to the All American 1930 Ultimate griddle over the expensive cast iron griddles - enameled cast iron coating is just not nearly as non-stick as we wish. You'll be dealing with stuck-on eggs and pancakes if you don't use just enough oil or too high (or low) of heat with enamel cast iron (that is just the nature of the beast). AA 1930's nonstick coating instantly releases any food you cook on it, making it an easy-to-use tool for a home cook of any skill level.

The only real drawbacks to this griddle are shared with other non-stick coated cookware - they are prone to scratches if not properly taken care of. Be sure to properly wash your griddle (with non-abrasive cleaning tools) and use non-metal (like wood, silicone, or nylon) cooking utensils to keep the griddle at peak performance. Our only other wish was that it had maybe higher sides that we could push our spatula against when flipping food.

Did we mention that the griddle comes in six colors and there is even a side-by-side griddle where half the pan is smooth while the other half has raised grill marks for burgers and steaks! For the most versatility, most color options, and best bang for your buck, we fully recommend the
All American 1930 Ultimate Griddle.

Griddle Comparison Chart

2. Cuisinart Chef's Classic Hard Anodized Nonstick Double Burner Griddle

Cuisinart Chef's Classic Hard Anodized Nonstick Double Burner Griddle

The Cuisinart Hard Anodized Griddle for double burners features sloped sides for the maximum cooking surface (being just a tiny bit larger than our winning All American Ultimate Griddle). This griddle has the tallest sides of any on the list -  this makes it great at containing grease and also helps push your spatula against when flipping food. We also really like this griddle's solid stainless-steel handles that are large and easy to grab with pot holders.

Cuisinart Double Burner Griddle has a hard anodized exterior which makes the exterior harder than stainless steel and extremely durable. The Quantanium nonstick surface is reinforced with titanium for durability and great non-stick cooking performance. The griddle is overall much thinner than the competition - the thinner material can cause uneven cooking especially when you are using this on a double burner with no direct heat in the middle. The thinner material also will cool down much more quickly and not retain as much heat as the competition, which can lead to difficulty cooking with this griddle.

3. Chantal Tri-Ply Griddle with Ceramic Coating

Chantal Tri-Ply Griddle with Ceramic Coating

Chantal's Tri-Ply Griddle with Ceramic Coating is the best choice if you're looking for something super nonstick and manufactured without chemicals such as PFOS, PFOA, lead, or cadmium. The Ceramic Coated Griddle ensures you can serve healthier, tastier meals to your family with peace of mind. Designed to fit most sync-burner cooktops, this griddle makes preparing pancakes, breakfast sausages, burgers, or steaks a breeze in any kitchen. The try-ply construction features a magnetic middle layer of aluminum between two durable stainless steel layers, ensuring durability and allowing it to work with even induction burners. Offset handles allow for better maximization of your cooking space, as well as safer maneuvering when you've finished cooking. When it's time to drain fats, simply utilize the corner spout to pour directly into your grease jar of choice. We also love the taller sides that let you push your spatula against when flipping food.

The Chantal griddle has many benefits if you are willing to pay for them - it does come at a higher price point of MSRP $249.95 (almost triple that of the All American). The nonstick coating is prone to scratches if not properly taken care of. Be sure to properly wash your griddle (with non-abrasive cleaning tools) and use non-metal (like wood, silicone, or nylon) cooking utensils to keep the griddle working well.

4. Staub Double Burner Griddle

Staub Double Burner Griddle

The Staub Double Burner Griddle is perfect for preparing a variety of foods, from a full breakfast for the family indoors to burgers and veggie skewers on the grill. Marrying a classic Spanish Plancha design with Staub's durable, high-quality enameled cast iron, this cooking plate provides exceptional browning and even heat distribution - resulting in perfectly prepared foods every time. A cast iron griddle is not only perfect for breakfast foods, but also holds the heat to put a sear on burgers or steaks much better than thinner materials. The pre-seasoned enameled cooking surface offers easy-release of foods, while the exterior enamel resists rust, chipping, and cracking for years of stylish food presentation. Backed by a limited lifetime manufacturer's warranty and crafted in France as all Staub cast iron cookware, this piece will be a trusted companion in the kitchen for years to come.

The Staub griddle is the smallest on the list where the handles (although large and easy to grab) do add to the total dimensions of the griddle making the cooking surface smaller than the competition. Enameled cast iron is great for retaining heat and even cooking, but it will not be nearly as non-stick as griddles with a coating applied to them.

5. Le Creuset Giant Cast Iron Reversible Grill/Griddle

Le Creuset Giant Cast Iron Reversible Grill/Griddle

Le Creuset offers two pans in one, this pan has a flat griddle cooking surface on one side and a classic ridged grill design on the other. Made of high-grade cast iron with a black matte enamel glaze, it offers premium searing and cooking performance. Use it to make melty quesadillas for the family, to grill chicken or steak indoors, or on your outdoor grill to keep delicate seafood from falling through the grates.

The concept sounds great on paper, but reviews were disappointed in the Le Creuset griddle. The handles are not well designed for a 2-burner stove - especially on gas stoves. The handle holes are so large that the flames
from a gas stove can jump through and be a hazard. The lack of a gutter around the edge for oil and fat to run off into is also missing from Le Cresuet's griddle. This can also become a fire hazard and at the least, a messy stove maker. Worst of all, the enamel coating is advertised as non-stick, but in real-world tests, food sticks to the surface of the griddle. This is a frustrating and unpleasant cooking experience overall.
